The short answer
Start with the full VIN, model year, make, model, body style and exact glass position: left or right, front or rear door, fixed quarter window, liftgate or back glass. A single vehicle line may use different parts based on production date, trim and options. Photos of the whole pane and its permanent corner marking can help confirm the glazing classification and manufacturer information.
The parts check should also identify tempered versus laminated construction, factory privacy color, solar or acoustic treatment, encapsulated molding, mounting tabs, antenna elements, defroster grid, wiper opening, camera or sensor brackets, and whether a moving door glass works with an anti-pinch system. A pane can physically resemble the original yet lack a required feature or have the wrong shade or mounting details. Federal rules require replacement glazing to meet the applicable classification and marking requirements, but compliance alone does not establish that it is the correct vehicle-specific part. Provide the shop with any unusual option information and retain the invoice, part identifier and DOT marking after installation for traceability.
