Mobile Service, Scheduling and Aftercare

When is an in-shop windshield appointment better than mobile service?

A shop or controlled location can be preferable when weather, calibration, workspace or vehicle condition prevents a safe mobile procedure.

The short answer

Mobile service is convenient, but the best location is the one that supports the complete vehicle-specific procedure. An in-shop or controlled setting may be preferable when excessive glass temperature, direct sun, rain, wind or dust cannot be managed; when the vehicle opening needs additional inspection; or when lighting, clearance and electrical power are important. Adhesive and primer manufacturers specify acceptable temperature, humidity and application conditions, and those instructions control the installation.

ADAS can also affect the location. Static calibration commonly needs level floor space, controlled lighting and correctly positioned targets, while dynamic calibration requires a suitable road route and driving conditions. Some vehicles require both. The shop should determine the process from current manufacturer information rather than from a generic rule. Before the appointment, ask whether repair, replacement and any required calibration can all be completed and documented at the proposed location. Moving the job is not a loss of convenience if it prevents an incomplete installation, an unverified calibration or work performed outside the material manufacturer's limits.
