Arizona Insurance and Glass Claims

Can I choose my own auto-glass shop for an Arizona insurance claim?

Arizona generally protects shop choice for a motor-vehicle glass loss, subject to the policy contract and claim terms.

The short answer

Generally, yes, but the policy contract matters. A.R.S. 20-469 says that, unless otherwise prescribed by contract, a person in Arizona may choose any glass repair facility for a covered motor-vehicle glass loss. If an insurer recommends a facility or provides information about one, it must disclose that choice right at the same time.

A third-party glass claims administrator has a parallel disclosure duty under A.R.S. 20-469.01, and its appraiser or claims inspector performing a glass-only inspection may not recommend a particular shop. Choosing the shop does not by itself guarantee that the insurer will approve every part, labor rate, calibration or other charge. Before work begins, confirm coverage and obtain an itemized estimate showing any amount that could be your responsibility. The statutes provide regulatory remedies and should not be described as an unlimited right to payment for any price or scope of work.
